ἀπόδημος Georg. 6 Körte. The word was displeasing to the Atticists: Moer. 143 ἔκδημος· Ἀττικῶς. ἀπόδημος Ἑλληνικῶς. Th. M. 123.1 ἔκδημος, οὐκ ἀπόδημος· καὶ ἐκδημῶ δὲ καὶ ἀποδημῶ. Ἀριστοφάνης ἐν Βατράχοις (l. 48) ποῖ γῆς ἀπεδήμεις; Pollux on the other hand approves of it: 6.198 ἐρεῖς . . . ἔκδημος, ἀπόδημος. Cf. Zon. Lex. 651. The word itself does not occur in prose of a good period, though the similar noun and verb do (Ar. above; Dinarch. 81 ἀποδημίας; frgg. 60.1, 60.2 ἀποδημέω mss.; Hyperid. fr. 47, 70.1; al.). It is frequent, however, in the later time: Ecphant. Pythag. ap. Stob. Flor. 48.64. Alex. 219 K. NT Mk. 13.34. Joseph. A. J. 2.165. Plut. Mor. 799E. [Luc.] Amor. 6. Its dialectal nature is attested by its occurrence in Pind. P. 4.5 οὐκ ἀποδάμου Ἀπολλωνος τυχόντος. κτλ. Artem. 14 times, e. g. 1.26. Alciphr. 2.18.1. Joann. Philop. in Arist. Analyt.
