The Executive Committee declined to assign a new US Route number to the section covered by the application, and offered the suggestion that the Tennessee Department of Highways drop the marking of US 70N between Nashville and Lebanon and US 70S between Sparta and Crossville and substitute US 70 between Nashville and Lebanon and install US 70 on the section covered by this application (State Route 26) between Lebanon and Sparta and former US 70S between Sparta and Crossville.
70N would then remain as is between Lebanon and Crossville but 70S would end at the junction with new US 70 at Sparta instead of Crossville as at present.

Beginning in Lebanon at junction of US Route 70N and State.Route 26, thence southeasterly over SR 26 via Watertown, Liberty and Smithville to US 70S at Sparta a distance of approximately 56 miles.

It was the action of the Executive Committee after a report by the Route Numbering Subcommittee, that the numerology of the Interstate System, as presently adopted and approved, not be altered.

The Missouri State Highway Commission has requested that Interstate Route 44 in Missouri be redesignated as Interstate Route 66. Discussion of General Principle involved, States of Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California also would be affected.
