II.
Sleep, little sunny head!
The morning hours have sped;
The noonday sun climbs high.
The Summer breezes sweet
Winnow the waving wheat,
A murmuring lullaby.

Sleep, little cradled head!
Sleep in thy wee white bed
While mother watches nigh.
The rustling Summer rain
Whispers a soft refrain,
A soothing lullaby.

Sleep! Wake and sleep again!
No longer croons the rain;
The sun drops down the sky.
Sleep, sleep, and sleeping hear
The angels fluting near—
Celestial lullaby.

Sleep, nested like a dove,
Babe on the breast of love!
The mild moon rideth high;
The whole world sleeps but one
Whose watch is never done,
Whose waking heart sings on
Love's endless lullaby.
