SERVICE

MANAGEMENT AND PROTECTION

For expenses necessary for the management and protection of the areas and facilities administered by the National Park Service, including protection of lands in process of condemnation; and for plans, investigations, and studies of the recreational resources (exclusive of preparation of detail plans and working drawings) and archeological values in river basins of the United States (except the Missouri River Basin); $16,647,000. 3 I A I N T E N A N C E AND REHAIilLITATION OF PHYSICAL FACILITIES

For expenses necessary for the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of roads (including furnishing special road maintenance service to trucking permittees on a reimbursable basis), trails, buildings, utilities, and other physical facilities essential to the operation of areas administered pursuant to law by the National Park Service, $14,000,000. CONSTRUCTION

For construction and improvement, without regard to the Act 37 Stat. 460. of August 24, 1912, as amended (16 U.S.C. 451), of buildings, utilities, and other physical facilities; the repair or replacement of roads, trails, buildings, utilities, or other facilities or equipment damaged or destroyed by fire, flood, or storm, or the construction of projects deferred by reason of the use of funds for such purposes; the acquisition of water rights; and not to exceed $1,700,000 for the acquisition of lands, interests therein, and improvements; $13,600,000, to remain me^f*^""^ '^*'°"" 'Available until expended: Provided, That the second proviso under the heading "National P a r k Service, Construction", in the Department of the Interior and Related Agencies Appropriation Act, 1956 (69 Stat. 147), is amended to add at the end thereof the following: "and shall not be subject to any Federal tax liability on the part of the contractor". ( L I Q U I D A T I O N OF CONTRACT

AUTHORIZATION)

For liquidation of obligations incurred pursuant to authority contained in section 106 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 (70 Stat. 376) and section 6 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1958 (72 Stat. 93), $30,000,000, to remain available until expended: Provided, That none of the funds herein provided shall be expended for construction on the following: Fort Washington and Greenbelt Park, Maryland, except minor roads and trails; Daingerfield Island Marina, Virginia; and extension of the George Washington Memorial Parkway from vicinity of Brickyard Road to Great Falls, Maryland. EXPENSES

For expenses necessary for general administration of the National P a r k Service, including such expenses in the regional offices, $1,475,000. ADMINISTRATIVE

PROVISIONS

Appropriations for the National Park Service shall be available for the purchase of not to exceed ninety passenger motor vehicles (of which eighty-four are for replacement only), including not to exceed fifty for police-type use which may exceed by $300 each the general purchase price limitation for the current fiscal year, and the objects fio^l!^^*949^*^^' and purposes specified in the Acts of August 8, 1953 (16 U.S.C. I b - l d) and July 1, 1955 (16 U.S.C. 18f).
