Approved December 13, 1944. [CHAPTER 582] AN ACT For the relief of Katherine Scherer. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of $2,200.85, to Mrs. Katherine Scherer, of Chicago, Illinois, in full settlement of all claims against the United States (1) as compensation for the death of her son, Albert Scherer, who was killed when struck by a United States mail truck on May 14, 1943; and (2) for reimbursement of funeral expenses incurred by her as the result of such death: Provided, That no part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 10 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Approved December 14, 1944. [CHAPTER 5831 AN ACT For the relief of Mrs. Eugene W. Randall. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Mrs. Eugene W. Ran- dall, route 1, Riverview Station, Saint Paul, Minnesota, the sum of $2,500, in full satisfaction of all claims against the United States for damages sustained by her as a result of being struck by an automobile operated by a rural mail carrier on July 8, 1942, in the driveway to her home: Provided,That no part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 10 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding.
