Tammsaarv, A. H. Viiul, Naistevorgutaja, Poialpoiss.

Tuglas, Friedbert. Writer and critic. Born in 1886. The director of the most important Esthonian literary magazine, Looming (Creation). The greatest Esthonian short story writer. Poeet ja Idoot, Popi i Huhnu, The Horror in the Forest. Has published six volumes of short stories. In 1925, Hingede randamine (Metamorphoses).

Wilde, Edward. Born in 1865. The most fertile of the Esthonian writers. Spent 12 years abroad as a refugee, mostly in the United States. Has published a trilogy based on Esthonian history, as well as numerous plays. In 1925, on the occasion of his 69th birthday, he wrote the short story, Asunik Wolterhausen (The Colonist Wolterhausen).

Finland

Haanpaa, Pentti. Born in 1905. Won the Finnish literary prize with his short story, Maantieta Pitkin.

Haarla, Lauri. Born in 1890. Author: Saaretun Nakyja, Sophonisba, Onni Maallinin, Hanuumanin tytar, Lemmin Polka, Synti, Uskottomuus, Nuorten Tuomio.

Jotuni, Maria. Born in 1880. Author: Suhteita, Rakkauttan, Kun on tun teet, Arkielamaa, Martinin Rikos, Vanha Koti, Miehen Kylkiluu, Savu-Uhri, Kultainen Vasikka.

Lehtonen, Joel. Born in 1881. Author: Paholaisen Viulu, Mataleena, Villi, Myrtti Ja Alppiruusu, Punainen Mylly, Kerran Kesalla, Kuolleet Omenapuut, Putkinotko, Rakastunut Rampa, Korpi Ja Puutarhan Sorron Lapset, Onnen Poika, Markkinoilta, Puolikuum Alla.

Sillanpaa, F. E. Born in 1889. Author, Enkelten Suojatit, Tollinmaki, Selma Koljas.

Germany

Mann, Klaus. The son of Thomas Mann. Enjoyed great success with first book of short stories entitled “Vor dem Leben.” An ultra modernist.

Ponten, Josef. Considered one of the greatest modern German short story writers. Die Uhr von Gold, Der Meister, Die Insel, Die Bockreiter.

Thiess, Frank. Author, Die Verdammten, Das Gesicht des Jahrhunderts, Angelika Ten Swaart, Der Tod von Falern, Der Leibhaftige, Der Kampf mit dem Engel.

Greece

Xenopoulo, Gregoire. He was born at Constantinople in 1867, but he spent his childhood at Zantiote, the native isle of his parents. Gregoire Xenopoulo is a very prolific writer, who has won equal success in all branches of literature. His best-known novels are The Red Rock, Photine Sandré, The Woman with Three Appearances, Isabella, Stella Violenti, The Evil Way, Therese Varma-Dacosta. He has drawn most of his dramas from his novels, and he has written a great number of short stories and sketches, which have been published in periodicals and newspapers at Athens.
