Jason.

Why, prithee, for the boys make such laments?

Medea.

I gave them birth: and when thou didst speak hopes
The boys should live, a qualm came over me 930 (931)
Whether it should go thus. Well, but why now
Thou hast this talk with me is told in part;
Of the rest I will make mention. Since it hath pleased
The royal house to send me from the land,
For me too it is best, I know it well, 935 (935)
Not to dwell here, a thwarting thing to thee
And to the country's sovereigns. For I seem
As though I had a quarrel to their house.
But verily we'll hasten from this land. 939 (938)
And yet, that thine own hand may train the boys,
Pray Creon that they shall not leave his realm.

Jason.

It must be tried. With what success I know not.

Medea.

Why then, bid thou thy wife entreat her father
To the end the children shall not leave his realm.
