Two Friends.
53
Had been friends together,
Friends of years,
Through all winds and weather,
Hopes and fears.
" All these years mistaken,"
Murmured one;
" Now to start and waken,
Find undone,
Ruined past retrieving
At a blow
All my fine believing."
Very low
Murmured he, the other,
"This the end?
More than any brother
Seemed this friend."
Thus apart they spoke there
Under breath.
