ORDER IN COUNCIL amending “The Merchant Shipping (Colonies) Order 1927 ”.—London, March 7, 1940([1])

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 7th day of March, 1940

PRESENT: THE KING'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL

WHEREAS in pursuance of powers conferred on him section 6 of “The Merchant Shipping (International Labor Conventions) Act, 1925,”([2]) His Majesty was pleased to make “The Merchant Shipping (Colonies) Order, 1927,”([3]) and “The Merchant Shipping (Colonies) (Amendment) Order, 1939,”([4]) amending the first-mentioned Order (which Order as amended is hereinafter referred to as “the principal Order applying the provisions of the Act, subject to the modification and adaptations specified in the principal Order, to ships registered in the territories mentioned in the Order:

And whereas it is expedient that the provisions of the Act should, subject to the modifications and adaptations specified in the principal Order, apply to ships registered in the territories mentioned in the schedule to this Order:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice of his Privy Council, is pleased to direct, and it is hereby directed as follows :—

1. The principal Order shall have effect as if there were added to the Schedule to that Order the names of the territories mentioned in the Schedule to this Order.

2. This Order may be cited as “The Merchant Shippi (Colonies) (Amendment) Order 1940,” and the principal Order and this Order may be cited together as “The Merchant Shipping (Colonies) Orders, 1927 to 1940.”

3. This Order shall come into operation in respect of each of the territories mentioned in the Schedule on the date of publication in the Official Gazette of the territory.
