STATE

ROUTE

DESCRIPTION

MONTANA U. S. 12
Relocation
(Revised Submission)
This routing would follow State Route 6 westerly from Forsyth via Melstone, Roundup, Ryegate, Harlowton and White Sulpher Springs to Townsend, thence northwesterly with U.S. 10N via Helena to Garrison, thence westerly with U. S. 10 via Drummond to Missoula.
APPROVED—After a study of the information supplied by the other States that would be affected by any subsequent proposed extension beyond Missoula when construction standards and traffic needs might qualify for inclusion in the U. S. Numbered System, the rerouting of U. S. Route 12 from Forsyth to Missoula instead of into Yellowstone Park was approved. Further, Montana must drop from the U. S. Numbered System all of U. S. 10 N between Three Forks and Garrison, also U.S. 10 S is to be renumbered U. S. 10 between Three Forks and Garrison, thereby also dropping U. S. 10 S from the U. S. Numbered System. The portion of U. S. 10 N between Three Forks and Townsend would be given a State Route Number. Present U. S. Route 12 between Forsyth and Yellowstone National Park as to be redesignated and marked as U. S. 312.
