Interim Designation

This routing begins on Delaware S. R. 71. at the Delaware-Maryland State line then runs northeasterly with S. R. 71 to S. R. 299 in Middletown. Northbound traffic will be routed over S. R. 299 to U. S. 13 at Odessa, then north over U. S. 13 ending at the junction with U. S. 40 at State Road. Southbound traffic will leave U. S. 13 at junction with S. R. 71 at Tybouts Corner, then southwesterly with S. R. 71 via Red Lion, Kirkwood over a slight detour near the Chesapeake-Delaware Canal over recently constructed high level Summit Bridge and approaches thereto (part of a future location for new U. S. 301) then back to present S. R. 71 via Mt. Pleasant and Armstrong to Middletown, there joining the northbound route previously described herein. (When future plans are completed an entire new facility will be completed between the Maryland-Delaware State line southwest of Middletown and Interstate 95 southeast of Newark and Delaware proposes to switch U. S. 301 to that location).

This routing would begin at the west city limits of Richmond on U. S. 360, thence southwesterly with U. S. 360 to Virginia State Route 49, thence southerly via Creve, The Falls, Victoria, Chase City, Clarkeville and Virgilina to the North Carolina State line.

(North Carolina Section)

This routing would begin at the Virginia State line on North Carolina State Route 49, thence southwesterly via Roxboro, Carr, Graham, Liberty, Ramseur, Farmer, Harrisburg, Charlotte to the South Carolina State line southwest of Charlotte.

(South Carolina Section)

This routing would begin at the South Carolina State line at South Carolina State Route 49, thence southwesterly via York, Sharon, Bullock Creek, Lockhart to Union, thence over U. S. 176 southerly via Whitmire to State Route 19, thence southerly via Helena, Newberry, Saluda, Johnston to U. S. 29 at Trenton, thence southerly with U. S. 25 to the Georgia State line at Augusta.
