U. S. ROUTE NUMBERING COMMITTEE
San Francisco, California
November 28, 1958

ACTION TAKEN BY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE-NOVEMBER 29, 1958

STATE

ROUTE

DESCRIPTION

SOUTH CAROLINA-
GEORGIA
U. S. 1
Alternate
Establishment
of an Alternate
U. S. Route
The proposed marking of an Alternate Route U. S. 1 would begin on U. S. 1 in Columbia and run south on U. S. 21-176 and 321 about 6 miles, thence southerly on U. S. 321 to S. C. State Route 3 south of Swansea, thence southwesterly on S. C. State Route 3 via Springfield and Blackwell to S. C. State Route 37 at Barmwell, then southerly on S. C. State Route 37 via Baldock to U. S. 301 southwest of Allendale, thence southwest on U. S. 301 to the Georgia-South Carolina State line, thence over Georgia State Route 73 and U. S. 301 via Sylvania and Statesboro to Claxton, thence west over U. S. 280 to Georgia State Route 169, thence south on S. R. 169 and S. R. 64 via Surrency to S. R. 121, thence south over S. R. 121 via Bristol, Blackshear and Hoboken to U. S. 1 northwest of Folkston.
DENIED inasmuch as the proposed routing does not meet the desired standards and if and when it does, it should be considered for marking as U. S. Route 1 since it seems to be more direct.
