Alignment of The "No" Dance

[edit]

There is some complicated alignment of text in The "No" Dance. In particular, there are awkwardly placed floating quotation marks that won't align properly without some extra effort, so I have put in this extra effort and this is what I have come up with:

  • All paragraphs/stanzas beginning with She or He use {{np2}} to shift the margin to the right by 3em, and then align the "She" or "He" by placing them 3em to the left of the margin.
  • Since {{fqm}} places the quotation marks directly to the left of the margin, this ensures that the floating quotation marks are also in the right place.
  • Near the end of the poem, there are some stanzas in which some lines are further to the left than this 3em margin; this is accomplished by using {{Overfloat left}}.
  • At the end of these stanzas, {{clear}} is necessary to ensure that the following stanza is not affected by the overfloated content.

Here is an example. For reference, the regular margin is shown in blue, and the shifted margin is shown in pink:

{{np2/s|depth=3em|{{Sc|She.}}}}
{{fqm|"}}Now it is mine again<br>
I am fain, I am fain<br>
{{overfloat left|depth=1em|To pay you true, as a Spirit should do}}<br>
With secrets of Heaven made plain."
{{clear}}
{{np2/e}}

She.

"Now it is mine again
I am fain, I am fain
To pay you true, as a Spirit should do
With secrets of Heaven made plain."
