Should we add to resemble the original work or not?[edit]

I remember I read that there is no need to add or indenting in paragraphs on the guide to edit and create or something like that but another user who created Chapter IX and Chapter X have put up to match with original work. And I was not aware of this so I did not put to create the pages of Chapter VIII, all of which I did by myself. So I wonder how would the book look uniform if there are two different layouts, either I should change my work or the another user should do that, nonetheless anybody else will do that but Im just putting this here so that it becomes clear.

P.S. the gaps coming in my discussion is just ((Gap)), "(" being the bracket "{" AlbertoWells (talk) 07:33, 31 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

These indents seem to have been removed. PeterR2 (talk) 06:28, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Per Wikisource:Style guide, paragraphs should not be indented. However, I can see that, in the book, every paragraph is indented except the first paragraph of each subchapter. I'm not sure if we should ignore the guide and follow the book's deliberate inconsistency. I see that @KingVik Planet is using {{gap}} to indent some paragraphs (I myself added it once after seeing their edits but before checking the guide again), so I'd like to hear their opinion. Please remove the {{gap}} templates at the beginning of paragraphs without adding more of them. This is a "house style" decision made many years ago and is regardless of the presentation of the printed copy. The inter-paragraph gap is sufficient to delineate a new paragraph. Yes, I've just talked with them about this at their talk page and they seem to agree not to use the template. I'll try to remove them when I get the chance, but feel free to do it before me. ObserveOwl (talk) 09:05, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Just checking the first chapter, there are already a few other types of style violations, like mixing curly and straight quotation marks, spaces between punctuation marks, and spaced ellipsis (. . .). This is going to take more time than I thought, maybe I'll do it on my next day off, on Wednesday. ObserveOwl (talk) 20:25, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Dots indicating omissions from quotations[edit]

There is inconsistency in the proofread and validated pages on this. Sometimes the proofreader has written .... and sometimes . . . . (which I personally think is better - are there any guidelines, though?). The validator has not made this consistent. PeterR2 (talk) 06:23, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I understand that there is not a single validator for this work, and lacking guidelines here, different validators will have different formatting preferences, hence the lack of consistency. Olivier (talk) 20:46, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
