Identification

[edit]

With some confidence, Stubbs can be identified as the direct descendant of Philip Stubbs, Henry Stubbs J.P., mentioned in this PDF on the history of Kent. So, the Henry Stubbs mentioned here, who turns out to be a Trinity College, Dublin graduate. He lived at Danby, Ballyshannon in Donegal. Charles Matthews (talk) 07:37, 7 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Comment I am not seeing Stubbs listed at TCD in their Alumni. https://digitalcollections.tcd.ie/home/#folder_id=42&pidtopage=LCN10378529_0003&entry_point=813

OBITUARY

Mr Henry Stubbs, D.L., died at his residence, Danby, Ballyshannon, on Wednesday evening last after an illness of a few days duration. The news came as a shock to Ballyshannon, as the deceased was in his usual good health when he opened the Kilbarron Fete on the Wednesday previous to his death. He has had, however, several severe indispositions within recent years, and an undermined constitution was unable to overcome serious trouble which developed on Wednesday last. The Stubbs family originally came to this country from Wales, but the deceased gentleman always prided himself on being a native of Ballyshannon. He was the owner of extensive property, and some of the best-situated country residences in South Donegal. He graduated and took his M.A. degree in Trinity College, Dublin, after which lie returned to personally supervise the management of his property. He was at one time High Sheriff for the County and also a D.L. The latter office he held until the time of his death. He was a large benefactor of So Anne's Episcopalian Church, and his name will be remembered by the beautiful chime of bells and the clock which adorns the tower. He was a Parochial Nominator, member of the Select Vestry and of the Diocesan Council. The funeral takes place to the family vault at Mullinashea at 12 o'clock on Saturday. To Mr Alfred Stubbs, solicitor, brother of deceased, we offer our sincere sympathy.
