Edward FitzGerald letter[edit]

She is mentioned in a letter from Edward FitzGerald to Frere's brother-in-law Stephen Spring Rice of 8 February 1864:

"I heard of you some Days ago from Augusta Frere, who was writing to me about a poor Woman at Aldbro."

Watercolours[edit]

The Illustrated Times of 4 February 1871 mentions that Frere exhibited a painting in the "seventh exhibition of water-colour drawings" at the Dudley Gallery of the Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly, London.

"In sea and water subjects the gallery is very rich, and it has one or two admirable street scenes. Among the latter we must at once mention 'Old Houses at Rye' (9), by Miss Augusta Frere, as fine in colour and intensity of tone as anything of the sort we have seen this season."
