George, created D.C.L. 3 July, 1810 (son of Thomas, of London, merchant), LL.B. from Peter House, Cambridge, 1784, bar.-at-law, Lincoln's Inn, 1784, fought a duel with Pitt on Putney Heath in May, 1798, treasurer of the navy 1803-4, and P.C. 1803, president Board of Control 1806, master of the Mint 1827-8, M.P. Colchester 1788-90, Southwark 1796-1806, Athlone 1806-7, Boroughbridge 1807-12, Appleby 1812-8, Knaresborough 1818, until his death 25 Jan., 1830, father of the next named.
