Murray, William, s. David, Viscount Stormont. Christ Church, matric. 18 June, 1723, aged 18; B.A. 1727, M.A. 1730, bar.-at-law, Lincoln's Inn, 1730, bencher 1743, serjt-at-law 1756, M.P. Boroughbridge 1742-56, solicitor-general 1742-44, attorney-general 1754-6, lord chief justice of King's Bench 1756-88, and created Lord Mansfield 8 Nov., 1756, also created Earl of Mansfield 31 Oct., 1776, & 1 Aug., 1792, ex-officio chancellor of the exchequer 1757 and 1767, and thrice refused the seals of that office, died 20 March, 1793, buried in Westminster Abbey.
