McIlvaine, Charles Petit; created D.C.L. 9 June, 1853 (son of Joseph Mcllvaine, of Burlington, New Jersey), minister Christ Church. Georgetown, D.C., 1820-5, chaplain to the (U.S.) Senate 1822-6, chaplain and professor of ethics U.S. Metropolitan Academy, minister at West Point 1825 to Dec., 1827, and of St. Anne's, Brooklyn, Jan., 1828-31, bishop of Ohio, 1831, until his death at Florence, 12 March, 1873.
