Maxwell, (Sir) William Stirling (Bart.), created D.C.L. 21 June, 1876 (only son of Archibald Stirling, of Keir, co. Perth), 9th baronet, K.T., M.P. Perthshire 1852-65, 1874-80, lord rector of Edinburgh University 1872-4, chancellor Glasgow University 1875-8, a member of senate London University 1874-8, a trustee of the British Museum, assumed the additional surname of Maxwell, died 15 Jan., 1878.
